Post Thanksgiving Tradition: Pie Shakes

My husband comes from a tradition-oriented family, so it’s really fun to see him put on these elaborate shows every time a holiday rolls around. On the Fourth of July, you have a parade in the morning, riding bikes and jumping into a river in the afternoon, and fireworks in the evening. On Thanksgiving, you’ve got bingo, prizes, and orange rolls. Christmas? Bring on “the Judy story,” homemade chocolates, a live nativity, and probably five other traditions I’m forgetting about. Plus there’s the red plate on birthdays.

Anyhow, it’s kind of gotten me thinking about what traditions my husband and I might start with our (future) kids—the ones they’re going to insist on doing with their (very future) spouses.

pumpkin pie shakeToday I just wanted to share a small little “day after Thanksgiving” tradition we started this year: pie shakes! It’s a great way to use up that extra pie from the day before. Literally just put a slice of pie in a blender (here I used pumpkin), scoop some ice cream on top, add some milk, and blend (or pulse if you want chunks.)

I didn’t say this was a healthy tradition haha.

I also recommend saving the pie crust, crumbling it, and sprinkling it on your shake like so:

I also recommend using this ice cream from TJ’s for your shakes. It’s so so good!

I hope you have a lovely start to the holiday season!
